Active and Passive Voice

The active voice means the subject of the sentence performs the action that the verb expresses. In other words, the order of words in your sentence is subject, verb, then object. This sentence structure puts the emphasis of the sentence on the subject, which is where it should be in academic writing. Review the handout below for more information on learning to write in the active voice.
